Dwarves are beings of short stature who all possess beards and are often friendly with Hobbits, although long suspicious of Elves. They are typically smiths and stoneworkers by profession, unrivalled in some of their arts, even by the Elves.

They were of the Maiar, spirits of the same order of the Valar, but lesser in power (Sauron himself was one of the most powerful of the Maiar), sent by the Valar to help and assist the peoples of Middle-earth to contest Sauron, then sent back to stop the Morgoth.

No New Posts Gondor
It was a Dúnedain kingdom founded by Isildur and Anárion, the sons of Elendil, after the Downfall of Númenor. Gondor was located to the west of Mordor, on the Bay of Belfalas. Its name means "Land of Stone", from Sindarin gond (stone) + (n)dor (land), most likely given to it because of the Ered Nimrais and other mountain chains in the land. Gondor and Arnor were known as the Realms of the Dúnedain in Exile.

No New Posts Eryn Lasgalen
After Sauron was reduced to a powerless "spirit of malice" at the conclusion of the Third Age, the darkness was lifted from Mirkwood, and it became known as Eryn Lasgalen, Sindarin for the Wood of Greenleaves. Mirkwood lies east of the Misty Mountains' rain shadow and has a humid-continental climate; winters are cold throughout but much longer in the north, while the south has hotter summers.

No New Posts Lothlórien
Like those of Northern Mirkwood(Eryn Lasgalen), the people of Lothlórien were mostly Silvan Elves of Nandorin descent, who were originally of all the Eldar those who most closely resembled the lost Avari of the east. As such, their earlier settlements lay scattered throughout the wide forests on both sides of the upper Anduin, having originally lingered there upon refusing the crossing of the Hithaeglir in very ancient times.

Rivendell (Sindarin: Imladris) is an Elven outpost in Middle-earth. It is also referred to as 'The Last Homely House East of the Sea', alluding to Valinor, which is west of the sea. It was established by Elrond in the Second Age of Middle-earth (four or five thousand years before the events of The Lord of the Rings).

No New Posts Moria
Known by other, brighter names over the course of its long history, this subterranean city and one-time centre of industry was also called Hadhodrond by the Sindar, Casarrondo by the Noldor and Phurunargian in the Common Speech, all meaning the Dwarrowdelf. In its latter days of darkness, however, for over a thousand years of the Third Age it was known as Moria, meaning 'The cook Chasm' or 'The cook Pit'.

No New Posts Iron Hills
The Iron Hills is one of the seven kingdoms of the race of Dwarves and was founded by Grór son of Dáin I after the Dwarves were exiled from the Grey Mountains to the west (And south, see Thrór and Erebor) because of attacks by Cold-Drakes seeking the vast wealth of the mountains, which resulted in the death of the king Dáin I. The Iron Hills were colonized at around the time of 2500 of the Third Age.

No New Posts Mordor
Its walls, on three sides, were mountain ranges, arranged roughly rectangularly: Ered Lithui in the north, Ephel Dúath in the west, and an unnamed (or possibly still called Ephel Dúath) range in the south. In the northwest corner of Mordor, the deep valley of Udûn formed the castle's gate and guard house. That was the only entrance for large armies, and that is where Gondor built the Towers of Teeth.

Harad (Sindarin: South, in Quenya: Hyarmen) was the name for the immense lands south of Gondor and Mordor. It was also called Haradwaith from the people who lived there; it literally means "South-folk", from the Sindarin harad, "South" and gwaith, "people".

During the Fourth Age Isengard was restored, and the entire valley granted to the Ents. The Ents tore down the walls of the ring, and named the new forest the Treegarth of Orthanc. Orthanc became again a tower of the Reunited Kingdom of Aragorn King Elessar.
